National Library Week
and literacy go hand in hand. Everyone
knows reading is important, but when it comes to following directions, reading
labels or warning signs it becomes especially significant.
I
considered this fact this morning when instead of "This medication may
taste better if chewed or crushed" my cold medicine actually recommends
"This medication may taste bitter if chewed or crushed."
I'm glad I took the
time to reread it before following the false eating suggestion for improved
tastiness.
Shushie, I have a question. All those books like "Process Theology for Dummies" and "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Quantum Mechanics" puzzle me. I would not be caught dead checking out a book that embodies a personal insult in the title. Am I behind the times? Am I not getting something meaningful in the Zeitgeist?
ReplyDeleteHaha, no, I often wonder that myself! The worst one I have seen was "Breast Cancer for Dummies" -- as if anyone who was suffering from something that terrible or their family or friends need further insult? Sheesh!
